Miss Wingham — June 30, 2024
This article was written by Year 9/10 Phar Lap student: Ollivia Olliver
This term, the Phar Lap class had been learning about horses, the evolution of horses, tack, poisonous plants, the anatomy, and more. One student, Julian, had brought in his western saddle and Miss Wingham taught the class about the different parts and equipment on the saddle.
We also arranged for some horses to come in for the students to ride. Kristen kindly brought in her two horses on Thursday, Nelson and Ava. Nelson was a Gypsy Cob cross and Ava was a Percheron, French draft horse. In third period, the class was brought to the field to meet the horses and brush them down before they were ridden. Each group then came out to ride them one at a time in a pen, and some groups got to ride around the edge of the field with Miss Wingham leading.
All the students had a fun time and learnt a lot about them. There were a few people that were new to riding, and were a bit nervous but still got on and had a go! It was great to see them enjoying this class, and a big thanks to Kristen for bringing in Nelson and Ava.
