Opihi College Senior History students have enjoyed a very interesting trip to Akaroa this week.
The Opihi College Senior History trip to Akaroa have had a great trip away with stunning weather - on the first day students visited Akaroa Museum to look at the displays and artefacts, and explored the Onawe Pa site. Students are collecting source material for their research projects of topics including the Musket Wars, Whaling on the Banks Peninsula and the French Settlement at Akaroa.
On the second day our Senior History students enjoyed informative visits to historical sites around Akaroa including the Britomart Monument, Onuku (one of the places where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed), Akaroa settler cemeteries and Takapunake Reserve, along with time to investigate historical sources at the Akaroa Museum. A very interesting and informative field trip for our history students. Thank you to Lynda and the Akaroa Museum staff for their assistance, and Thank you Mr Goodman for organising this for our students!
