Outram heritage
Visitors can explore the past when history is made tangible.
The Taieri Historical Museum and Vintage Machinery Club Museum are both located at Outram on the Taieri plain. Run by the Taieri Historical Society, the Taieri Historical Park is the final home for many old wooden buildings, including a courthouse, a schoolroom, a church, and various sheds, as well as farm equipment, furniture, photographs, documents and other items. Beyond the Park, the township of Outram is home to other historical buildings too.
With Jenny McDonald from the Taieri Historical Society, a team of Otago Polytechnic Communication Design ākonga (students) worked on a design strategy to promote Outram's heritage. They developed a new logo for the Society, a brochure for a walkable heritage trail, and sign boards to tell some of the stories along the trail.
They hope that these resources will help locals and visitors to navigate Outram's heritage and learn more about the people who once lived there.
