Personality - the strengths and weaknesses

Lesley Brook —

Michael Simmons has delivered leadership skills workshops around New Zealand for accountants.

Accountants recognise that they need a range of personal as well as technical skills to add value for their clients beyond traditional transactional accountancy services. They are interested in a greater ability to communicate effectively with clients to understand and meet their needs.

TEO Training therefore arranged for Michael Simmons to run workshops in six different locations around New Zealand to provide accountants with leadership training as part of their continuing professional development. These workshops used the Myers Briggs Type Indicator assessments together with group discussions and case studies to help participants appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of their preferred way of working.

Feedback from participants was very positive. When asked what was the most useful thing they learned, participants described understanding their own personality better, appreciating diverse personalities, and identifying opportunities to improve their interactions with others, especially people who have a different personality type.
