User-centred design for new premises

Otago Polytechnic's workSpace helped EIS create an open and collaborative environment to enhance their business.

EIS is an award-winning engineering, automation and electrical company. Based in Invercargill, the business is moving into a global market, and needed larger premises to continue to grow their consultancy, projects and operations capability. But they were struggling to find a layout for their new building that would work well for all staff.

EIS approached Otago Polytechnic's workSpace for help. After talking with the teams to understand their different needs, workSpace provided a bespoke open-plan design for the working environment, incorporating spatial and interior design principles.

EIS moved into their new premises in Invercargill at the start of July. Daryl Cook, Operations Director, says: "Last minute changes, late engagement and a tight budget were just some of the challenges the WorkSpace team had to deal with not to mention an Operations Manager and a CEO that had no idea what we really required. I can tell you that on behalf of EIS as a group we are delighted with our new home and judging by the seamless transition by all staff from our old premises to this new open plan environment is testament to Eva and Lynda's vision, expertise and hard work.
