Promotional design work by Jesse Small by Fortune Theatre

Promotion designs for "Irma Vep"

Our partnership with the Fortune Theatre continues with design for promotional materials.

The Fortune Theatre's current production is "The Mystery of Irma Vep", a satire of several theatrical, literary and film genres, including Victorian melodrama, farce, and the penny dreadful. The theatre sought designs for marketing collateral that would encompass the many unique and wonderful themes underlying the play, which runs from 12 November to 10 December.

Communication Design student Jesse Small created a series of mythical characters which all feature in the play as well as a recreation of the Fortune Theatre itself, and used them as the main imagery for posters and other promotional collateral. He took inspiration from early 50s and 60s horror novels, movies and comics to capture a classic horror feel.

The theatre's General Manager Bob King says "It was great to work with Jessie Small, a student with a penchant for drawing. Jesse presented a number of options which were refined down then the final version agreed upon after protracted discussions around colour choice. The imagery draws on the theatre building cum country manor for the period of the show. It is essential that our productions are supported by good collateral that reflect the show, engages with the public and translates into the public buying tickets. Marketing collateral needs to grab the attention of the public and Jessie has produced work that both draws your attention and reflects the show."
