Colouring book for Orokonui Ecosanctuary by Susanna O'Keefe

Engaging children

New resources will help engage younger visitors to the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.

Orokonui Ecosanctuary is a protected habitat with many rare and endangered species. It is a place where people can enjoy a peaceful encounter with nature, and where curriculum-based learning is provided for children. Three of our Communication Design students have provided new resources to help the Orokonui Ecosanctuary engage children.

  • Susanna O'Keefe designed a colouring book which introduces young visitors to the species they might encounter.
  • Quinn Hawthorne produced a graphic novel telling the story "2015: The Infamous Year of the Stoats".
  • Yujin Shin worked on an educational resource, Tī Kōuka, for Orokonui Ecosanctuary staff to use with classes.

Amanda Symon, General Manager at the Orokonui Ecosanctuary, is looking forward to using the new resources. A sponsor has already covered the costs of production of 10,000 colouring books, which are in use already.
