Servants Health Centre Appeal Video by Servants Health Centre

Attracting volunteers

Students worked with charity Servants Health Centre to produce a promotional video.

The Servants Health Centre in Dunedin was set up out of a concern that many people in Dunedin struggle to pay for healthcare costs or receive no healthcare services at all. In response to these needs, and inspired by their Christian faith, the vision of a free clinic operating through volunteers was created. Servants Health Centre opened its doors in January 2010.  Patients with the highest needs are enrolled ahead of others. Attracting volunteers to work at Servants Health Centre is critically important to maintain the services provided to these patients.

Our film and media students worked with Servants Health Centre to prepare a promotional video which would help attract volunteers. They conducted interviews with personnel, and pieced together the finished video.

Clinic Leader Beth Stitely says the promotional video has been a huge help. It is on their website, and they have shown it so far in about five churches. She has really noticed the difference the video made; when they did not use it at one church, far fewer people expressed interest in volunteering. By raising awareness of the Servants Health Centre and the need they are meeting, the video has also helped attract donations to support their work.
