Updated Key Dates - Term 1

Ormiston Junior College —

There are a few really important events coming up at OJC this term that you might like to know about early and put into your diary/calendar now...

  1. [UPDATED!] "MEET THE MAC" BBQ - cancelled.

  2. [UPDATED!] PHOTOLIFE ID & MAC CLASS PHOTOS: Portrait / student ID card photos and MAC class photos  for 2021 will be taken on Monday 22nd March at school.

  3. ASSESSMENT WEEK [LITERACY & NUMERACY TESTING’]: Initial e-AsTTle Maths and Reading diagnostic assessments have taken place during most learners' regular literacy or numeracy lab coaching time this week. There have been some technical challenges for some learners during these assessments and some catch-up opportunities are planned through out Week 7 for these.

  4. [UPDATED!] PARENT / LEARNER / COACH CONVERSATIONS (PLCCs) - our first formal connection, feedback/target setting and conference night will take place on Wednesday 24th March from 1pm-8.30pm. Booking details went home via HERO today. School will close early at 12pm on this day to enable meetings to take place.

  5. [NEW!] TOKI POUNAMU, WAKAHUIA & MANUTAKI PRESENTATION CEREMONY - takes place in the afternoon of Thursday 1st April. This is where our new learners and staff are presented with their toki pounamu, officially welcoming them 'home' to the OJC whānau. We will also induct our new learners' "letters to self" into the very precious OJC wakahuia (treasure box). Each year when learners begin their journey at OJC, they write themselves a letter, a time capsule of sorts, reminding them who they are now, what they enjoy, what they wonder about OJC and their journey ahead etc. On their very last day of Year 10, learners are re-presented with their letter from 1, 2, 3, 4 years ago to look back on as a measure of their personal growth. Our student leaders for 2021 will also be presented to the school and officially pinned with their leadership badges for 2021, signifying the commencement of their year of leading through service to the school.

  6. EASTER - School will be closed on Friday 2nd April (Good Friday) and both Monday 5th (Easter Monday) & Tuesday 6th April (Easter Tuesday - schools only) for the Easter period.

  7. [NEW!] MARAETAI "MAC DAY OUT" & TERM 1 BADGE BIDDING CELEBRATIONS: Badge bidding days celebrate learning over the course of Term 1 as learners curate portfolios of learning and present these to coaches and peers as evidence towards their OJC Graduate Profile digital badges. Our annual haerenga (journey) to Maraetai supports learners in understanding the significant locations and narratives that have been gifted to us by our local iwi, Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki. Getting to walk in and around some of the significant locations and environments of our iwi is vital for our learners' understanding and kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of these gifts we are charged with sustaining and keeping. These take place as follows:

  • Aumoana, Kapua & Manu, Maraetai "MAC Day Out", Monday 12th April.
  • Tohorā, Whetū & Marama, Badge Bidding Day, Monday 12th April.
  • Aumoana, Kapua & Manu, Badge Bidding Day, Tuesday 13th April.
