Previewing the iPad - a learners best friend at OJC

Kelly Price —

Deep into term two here at OJC staff are quietly chuffed with the decision to go with an iPad as our learning device.

The iPad sits alongside all we do with our learners at school in absolutely every subject we teach. As a true 21st century learning device the iPad is portable with an exceptional camera to not only capture photographs but also video and audio to a high level. This means that genuine future focused learning is core to what we do here at OJC and not all of that learning happens at a desk. If you walk around our school you will regularly see learners using their iPads for reading, writing and maths. But that’s just the start, they use them to collaborate with each other in real time, to organise their projects and time manage dynamically, to use animation, to investigate and utilise media rich content on core OJC apps such as Explain Everything and Notability. The latest Apple device the Apple Pencil bridges the gaps between traditional note taking in school and the new technologies available on iPad. Even more Apple Pencil functionality is expected with the release of the iO11 update due in September. In short, the iPad is the perfect learning companion for us at OJC - innovative at its heart, the absolute essence of what we’re all about.
