OJC Hits the Slopes
For the first time, OJC learners had a conference week option for an overnight ski trip to the snow. Our learners were pumped and rearing to go!
OJC’s first ever snow trip was a huge success! After a road trip down (including lunch in Otorohanga and a walk to the Raurimu spiral lookout) we arrived at Taylor Memorial Lodge in the afternoon. The lodge was right near the mountain and there wasn’t much else around but plenty to do! We played pool, foosball, cards and had a great time together. It was even said (by one of our year 8s) that “no wifi is actually doing us good!”
It was a pretty early start the next morning, and after we had breakfast and cleaned up the lodge we headed up the mountain. Our skiers and snowboarders started by spending most of their time on their butts in the snow, but after some lessons from the instructors they were away! Our learners picked it up really well and everyone gave it a good go.
On the way home the learners napped for about half an hour then were back to singing and chatting. We stopped for fish n chips, and arrived just after 9pm. All of the teachers who came on the trip were so proud of our learners. They behaved very well and represented OJC admirably.
