Gerrie Viljoen | Learning Coach

Ormiston Junior College —

My career as a teacher started in South Africa after graduating from the University of Pretoria. I taught at Pretoria Boys High School and Edenvale High School. Aotearoa has been my home since 2002.

After numerous years of running my own business, I had a burning desire to return to teaching. However, my excitement only really started after meeting Luke and the awesome team at Ormiston Junior College.
The innovative learning environment as well as the collaborative, flexible teaching experiences has made me realise that OJC meets the needs of a rapidly changing society. It offers me the opportunity to explore my teaching style that I feel best suits my learners. I am so privileged to be working with such talented, caring and helpful teachers.

My main goal as a learning coach at OJC is to explore the NZ curriculum, nurturing a growth mindset in learners, while emphasising future-ready skills to prepare students for jobs not yet invented. My philosophy when it comes to caring for the leaders of tomorrow has always been that children learn best when their individual differences are taken into consideration.
