Whānau Ora

Ormiston Junior College —

The research around physical activity and its direct correlation to learning outcomes are undeniable.

Whānau Ora kicked off with learners selecting their movement focus options. From walking to basketball, and workouts to invasion games, to special guests from Auckland Cricket, there were a tonne of choices on offer, and the OJC learners wasted no time getting stuck in. Daily time for physical and mental wellbeing is a crucial part of developing the building blocks for optimum learning. This is what Whānau Ora at OJC is all about.

“ A healthy diet and physical activity has a direct link to increased cognitive function ”

Each group has worked on developing their skills and fitness in their options, and rotated through Introduction to Mindfulness sessions. There was also a weekly pastime game rotation for learners which focused on learning and creating their own games perfect for breaks and lunch times.
