My name is Nishalia Maharaj and I am a Learning Assistant and Laboratory Technician at OJC. I grew up in South Africa and found my way to this wonderful country at 11 years old, where I have remained ever since.

I started my OJC journey in 2020 and amongst many lockdowns and zoom calls, I found that this role combines my love of science and working with young people perfectly. My passion for working with children transpired when I first became a learning assistant in 2017. I completed my Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biomedical Science, in 2019 and I am also a Phlebotomist.

I truly believe learning is lifelong and transdisciplinary. I hope to encourage curiosity in learners about the world and to help them problem solve.
