Ormiston Junior College —

My love for teaching began when I was working in England, helping to educate the community about the importance (and ease) of recycling their waste.

Sitting in my office, I was planning a session I was to facilitate at a local primary school later that week and came to the realisation that I really “buzzed” off the teaching and learning aspect of my job. Soon after, my partner and I returned to NZ where I trained as a primary school teacher. I have worked in the primary sector for 12 years, across all year levels taking on many roles and responsibilities. However I do enjoy the older year groups as the connections made and conversations had are so real and fulfilling.

Originally from the North Shore, I ventured across the Auckland Harbour Bridge to East Auckland, where I now call home. I attended the University of Auckland, completing a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Environmental Science before heading to the U.S.A to take part in a summer camp counsellor programme. From there I spent three years in the United Kingdom before returning home to NZ to become a teacher, taking part in the Post-Graduate teaching programme at the University of Auckland.

My husband and I have two children who are 5 years and 2 years old. We love to head out fishing on a weekend and have purchased season passes for Mt Ruapehu with the hope that we’ll be able to get on the snow this year! Before we had our kiddies we were avid travellers and now our little guy is old enough to walk and talk we are set to increase our travel opportunities again.

I am excited to be working alongside a future-focused team of Learning Coaches and Designers at OJC and equally excited to be working with this brand new Auckland community. The curriculum design at OJC is refreshing and inspiring and I am looking forward to seeing how I continue to grow personally and professionally. The experiences I have had and shared along my travels and teaching career have opened me up to a world of unique possibilities, with my role at OJC being one I am very much looking forward to being a part of.
