Ormiston Junior College —

Kia ora tātou! I was born and raised in The Bahamas and have now settled in New Zealand after a number of educational and life adventures along the way.

Living and studying in Toronto for my final year of High School and then moving on to Queen’s University, in Kingston, Canada for my undergraduate studies, helped to shape my passion for learning and teaching in complex environments, and set me on a path of working with learners and families to ensure the best educational outcomes possible.

My teaching career began in 2002 and includes teaching English as a Second Language in Japan and History and Geography in the Bahamas where I enjoyed leading international exchanges through the Caribbean, North and South America, and Europe.

After studying for my Masters in England, I returned to The Bahamas where I took on my first senior leadership role in curriculum development and supervision in 2007. It was in this role that I worked closely with Ministries of Education in a number of countries - but most closely in Ontario, Canada through its Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat. Since this time, I have held a number of education portfolios both in government and in the private sector around curriculum development, professional development, and 'continuous improvement' systems in education.

In New Zealand, my career took an interesting and welcome twist by adding a primary teaching qualification to my toolkit. I consider myself lucky to have worked at Epsom Normal Primary School and Mount Albert Primary School both of which are stunning examples of excellence in New Zealand education and both of which have enhanced my passion for helping every learner maximise their potential.

Perhaps my most stunning achievements are my 2 sons, ages 14 and 11.
