Grace Hynes | Learning Coach

Ormiston Junior College —

Kia ora!

I was born and raised in South Auckland with my two older brothers by our Kiwi parents.

Growing up I could never decide what it was that I ‘wanted to do with my life’. I tried my hand at a range of different jobs/degrees (creative writing, patisserie, english, media, sports science, hairdressing, a cake making business, and much more if you would believe it!) but I always fell back to working with young people.

I have had a passion for being active for as long as I can remember. Over the years I have tried my hand in a range of different sports such as touch, netball, figure skating, ice hockey, flying trapeze, trampolining, gymnastics and tumbling. I found a passion for coaching through my gymnastics club and that has taken me across the globe to coach in the USA and then back home to gain my Federation of International Gymnastics qualification in coaching.

Through this love for coaching I found a passion for teaching young people and helping them succeed, which is what led me to the degree in Sport, Health and Physical Education, and then to the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) and onto this position at OJC where I am involved in Whanau Ora, Hauora, TAIP, MAC and coaching the OJC Gymnastics Team.
