Community Connect Day a Success!

On the afternoon of the 7th March, Ormiston Junior College hosted our first ever school-wide community connect day. Staff and students welcomed members of our extended community to the school.

OJC learners and staff host a range of different learning events throughout the year. For our Community Connect Day, guests came from a huge variety of sectors, backgrounds and organisations. During the afternoon the visitors spent time with our TAIP students who asked them questions and gained their feedback and ideas into their inquiry work.

For our students, gaining this type of stakeholder information is invaluable. The opportunity to converse openly with members of the public about their learning enables learners to accept feedback and feed forward part way through their learning journey. For many of our OJC learners, the community connect day helped shape their final few weeks inquiry work. Our guests gave students ideas, helped refine thinking, shaped project initiatives and in doing so offered momentum to much of the learning taking place.

After the consultation period with the community, our students then socialised with our community over snacks and nibbles in the cafeteria and courtyard, giving our young people an experience in networking with a more casual approach to collaboration. A huge thank-you to all those who took part, and to any keen to come in the future - feel free to be in touch anytime!
