Resilience Camp Lives up to its Name.

During Activity week, some year 7 & 8 boys were invited on a camp to work on their resilience.

Resilience is all about learning how to cope with the hardships we face in life by learning, acknowledging and finding a way forward.  We were noticing that for some of our young boys here at OJC their inclination when the ‘going got tough’ was to simply give up.  It is in responding to this need that the idea of a Resilience Camp was developed.

Learning Coaches Kelly, Jan & John took 21 boys up north to the Kauri Coast.  Here the boys cooked and fed themselves, pitched their own tents, and faced a range of challenges.  The obstacles they faced were all difficult and required the boys to dig deep in order to achieve them.  Everything they did required them to work as a team and not to give up.  The boys had a great time catching eels, swimming, fending for themselves and telling ghost stories.
