Brand new Takahe chick

Takahe Update!
Thank you Paul Sorrell for this amazing photo of the new Takahe Chick! Taken just 2 days ago.
This week Kelly and Elton spent an hour watching the takahe family from a far. They only observed 1 chick and are reasonably certain that this is the only one. In fact there has only been one observation of 2 chicks (that we know of) and that was by visitors last Thursday (22nd).
Paku seems a very attentive Mum and was constantly feeding chick snippets of exotic grass. However the same couldn’t be said of Quammen who, in an hour, didn’t seem to feed the chick once and appeared to prefer sentry duty.
We expect good sightings/interactions in 2–3 weeks and thank you for your patience.
