On Thursday afternoon the year 7s and 8s had a video call with William Pike.
The year 7s and 8s were having a video call because of a challenge in which we must complete 12 hours community service - William Pike was giving us ideas and motivation for what we could do.
William Pike is a Kiwi explorer who used to be a teacher. On September 25th 2007 William Pike climbed Mt Ruapehu with a friend, (James Christie). They decided to stay the night. That night Mt Ruapehu erupted and William was badly injured. His leg had to be amputated below the knee. He learnt how to walk again and he had a hard decision - whether he should continue teaching or go on and create something meaningful for NZ youth.
The William Pike Challenge (WPC) is a popular program in schools all over New Zealand. We are 1 of a hundred schools or 11 of 3000 students in NZ who are participating in the WPC this year. Even more special - we are the only school in the Far North who are doing the WPC.
