Former Black Cap Visit

Ken Rust —

In March 2015 Grant Elliott become a folk hero in NZ cricket when he smashed the last ball of the World Cup semi-final for six to qualify his country for their first ever World Cup Final.

He top scored (84 not out) in that game against South Africa, ironically the country in which he was born. Grant went on to also top score (83) in the Final won by Australia.

Along with former wicketkeeper, Luke Ronchi, Grant holds the world record for the highest sixth-wicket partnership in a One-Day International (267).

Now working as an Educational Consultant, Grant took the opportunity while visiting OBHS this week to run a short fielding skills' session with a group of Year 10 cricketers in the school gym. At the end of the drills Grant spoke to the boys about the mental skills required to succeed in sport and was happy to answer a range of questions about his international career.
