Sim Brothers on Target

OBHS —

Henry and Nick Sim attended the South Island and New Zealand ISSF Trench Competitions held at the Balfour Gun Club over Waitangi weekend.

The Trench competition is different to what the boys have competed at in the past, with these targets travelling faster, over a distance of up to 80 metres with a maximum horizontal angle of 45°.

The competitors, of all ages, came from throughout New Zealand, none had travelled from overseas this year due to the pandemic. They enjoyed mostly calm, sunny, hot weather with the exception of a very strong cold wind on Thursday, which made for some challenging targets.

In the C Grade of the South Island competition on Thursday and Friday, Nick came 2nd, with Henry 3rd.

For the New Zealand competition, because Nick had already competed at a previous ISSF Trench competition, his shooting percentage saw him go up to B Grade, Henry was C Grade.

For the NZ ISSF Trench Junior (under 21) section of this competition, Nick just missed out on the shoot off for first by 1 point, putting him in 3rd place.

In the NZ ISSF Trench C Grade, Henry came 1st.
