As a senior you hear the same old speech week in week out, year after year.

You hear about the struggles prefects have of coming up with a topic to talk about, but the real struggle is how to make your last word better than the guy before you. How can you make your speech different. Just like in life, how are you different? Today I am going to talk about creating your story, your legacy. How do you want to live your life?

Dr Seuss once said ”Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” This applies to all of us, we were all born to stand out in our own unique way. Unfortunately it’s very easy to fit in, do what everyone else is doing, and get what everyone else gets. Standing out can come in many forms. You can give a standout performance, or you can simply hold ideas and beliefs that are uncommon and go against the grain. Be different from the guy next to you. You are your own person and hold the power to your future, be better today than what you were yesterday.

A legacy. What is a legacy? A legacy could be, “anything handed down from the past, what is left behind for the organization or the people. How do you want to be remembered versus how you will be remembered. My biggest tips for creating your own legacy is:

1) Do what matters now. Everyone who’s at the end of life says it goes by fast. 

2) Seize small opportunities. Big ones may follow. Stop waiting to make a difference. 

3) Do what makes you happy. If you aren't happy doing what you're doing, your impact on others won't be what you want it to be. 

What do you want your reputation to be? Tomorrow is a new day, a chance to turn over the page and start writing your story.
