Waterwise Youth Leadership Programme 2016

Kent Twaites —

During the beginning of the Christmas holidays three of our students attended a week long camp based at Bannockburn school house. The main objective was to develop leadership qualities by focusing on and exploring important water issues within the Cardrona Valley catchment and Central Otago areas.

The experience was a powerful opportunity for our students Teremoana, Nicholas and Taina to learn water management skills and examine how these could be included in a future sustainable community planning and modern business practice. The learning experiences and the scientific investigations carried out helped to provide and stimulate the important links between student knowledge, individual empowerment and practical action for their school and the future.

Valleys were walked, Clyde dam was inspected, tunnels were explored and numerous rivers tested on many a level. Data was collected and opinions presented. Leadership and thought processes developed and friends made. A fantastic learning experience.
