Year 10 student Samuel Thompson struck it big at the Regional Semi Final of the Great NZ Spelling Bee and won a trip for him and a member of his family to Auckland to compete in the National Final.
Up against eleven other students from all around the Otago region, Sam held his nerve and spelt like a champion.
