Life in Lockdown

Cameron Moffitt —

Lockdown has been a strange but memorable experience that was full of surprises because who would have predicted that toilet paper would be so popular in a time like this.

At first, the thought of not being able to attend sporting events whether it was competing or watching and not being able to see family and friends for an extended period came as a shock.

The first day I sat in my room, clueless, with nothing to do. Was I able to go for a run to the park? Was I even able to go outside? Once the can and can't do’s were established, I realized this isn't going to be so bad after all.

For the next 2 weeks, my life consisted of training at the local park and binge-watching the latest Netflix series. Then school rolled around and online schooling started. If you had asked me when I was 5, I never would have guessed I would be doing some of my last year of school in my bedroom. Online schooling presented its challenges but with a little bit of patience and hard work it turned out that online school could be pretty fun.

One of the big things to come out of lockdown was the amount of family time. The time spent with family can sometimes be taken for granted, so getting the time in lockdown to spend with them was a great way to reconnect. Even though it was good spending 24/7 with the family, after a long time it can start to become a bit much. So, the times when I was able to get some fresh air and train, were made the most of. When out training, I started to notice that each day there were more and more people out for a walk whether they were on their own, with their dog or with their bubble.

As a whole, lockdown has made us all adapt and change our way of life. It also taught us new things and brought the family closer. In years to come people will still be telling stories of their lockdown experiences and the shock COVID-19 brought to the world.
