A Message From the Rector

Richard Hall —

Academically we are racing to the end of the term. Junior students will sit their first set of examinations for the year. Each boy was individually emailed his exam timetable and Mark Hooper, Assistant Principal has published study tips through last week's newsletter.

As a school we were pleased to receive, this week a letter from Hekia Parata, Minister of Education. In it she writes;

I am writing to congratulate Otago Boys’ High School on the improvement in your students’ NCEA achievement over the past two years.

The NZQA provisional results show your students have achieved significant improvement in NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3 over the past two years. They also show that this significant improvement has occurred in your Māori and Pasifika students’ achievement and that your overall achievement levels were above the New Zealand average for 2015.

Congratulations on your students’ success.

This is recognition of our teaching and learning programmes and tremendous efforts our teachers and students put in each day. A successful school is one that lights the desire for learning in its staff and students.

For seniors too, the term is also rapidly coming to an end and assessments are due. I am hearing of senior boys who will be travelling overseas with family before the end of term to take advantage of cheap fares. I am disappointed that the school seems to take second place here and I wish to reiterate the school's 100% completion policy. Boys who know they will not be attending school on the last days, must hand in their assessments before they leave. Extensions cannot be granted as that would be unfair on those who do not get the extra time.

Congratulations to all those who competed so well in the successful inter-school with Timaru Boys' High. We value the opportunity and the competition with our South Canterbury cousins.

Have a good weekend, your son needs to do some extra study!
