Visit To Marine Sciences Laboratory

Michelle Gilks —

This week the three Year 12 Biology classes set off down to the peninsula to visit the Marine Sciences lab at Portobello.

They dissected mud crabs and flat fish to see what kinds of adaptations they have to help them feed and survive in an estuarine environment. They also learnt about the effects of biotic and abiotic factors such as parasites and salinity on the numbers distribution of cockles at the estuary. It was a fun day and a valuable learning experience.

Back in the classroom the boys will compare and contrast the three organisms for their internal assessment.
