Knockout Competition Update

Jens Moller —

Every week at lunch time Tuesdays, Music Club meets in Room 119 to talk about everything and anything audible.

Music Club has had a fairly slow start to Term 3 in terms of listening to albums, however our Knockout Song Competition is in full swing! This Friday we will have finished the first two weeks of voting, which will mean the original 64 songs will be cut down to only 32. There have been some very close match ups so far, with Kanye West just beating Carly Rae Jepsen by a handful of votes, and Luis Fonsi beating fun. by an equally close amount.

Although the poll will be closed by the time this article is published it looks like Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran will be going down to the wire, along with Katy Perry and The Foo Fighters who cannot be separated at this time. There have been a few one sided affairs too, with LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem receiving 95% of the vote against HAIM’s The Wire.

Next week Music Club will be back to our regular scheduling with some album reviews. We have selected SAULT’s Nine and Lorde’s entire discography ahead of her new album that releases later in August. The Knockout Competition will continue into week 5 with the Round of 32 match ups, aiming for a Grand Final in week 8 of Term before our seniors head into their practice examinations.

Stay tuned for more reviews and updates on the competition in the future. Remember - this is all subjective - there is no such thing as a cool taste in music - and you are welcome to agree, disagree, or request albums via email (jens.moller@obhs.school.nz).
