Year 10 student Mikko Johnston's singing career is set to reach great heights if the success he has achieved at competitions this year is anything to go by.

Mikko tells us about his year competing in country music events.

This year I competed in four country music awards. Placing in many Intermediate sections (Ages 12-18), and Open Sections (any age). I have also placed overall at three out of four awards. This is the most success I've ever had with country music and I'm hoping to build on my achievements heading into 2023.

Winning the NZCM Country Music Star Awards has gained me entry into the 2023 Entertainer of the Year. One of the most prestigious country music awards in New Zealand. This will take place next year in October.
