The challenge was to write a short story of no more than 100 words.

It had to include:

· a broken computer/laptop/tablet.
· someone who claims to be the friend of an important figure (e.g. the Queen, Jacinda Ardern, Vladimir Putin …).
· A newspaper with something missing or cut out.
· A building under construction.
· A dog.
· At least one line of dialogue.

John hurried through the cold streets, his broken laptop clutched to his chest. Stray dogs wandered through his path. He walked past the building next to his that was being renovated, not stopping to admire the architecture like he usually did. He was going to meet a Nigerian! He had sent in a newspaper coupon and had received a call.

“This is Dola. I have called about your car’s extende….er… About the meeting with a Nigerian Prince. What we need you to do is send money to this bank account so we can organise your travel fare.”

“Okay.” John agreed.
