New Coach for Senior Water Polo Teams

Elaine Kelly —

This year we are very lucky to have an experienced hand join us in coaching Water Polo.

Paul Wagner grew up in Cape Town South Africa where he first started playing water polo at the age of 13. He quickly developed a passion for the sport and enjoyed playing 1st team for 3 years, captaining the team in his final year. After a gap year, he became instrumental in the establishment of an old boys water polo club where he continued to play for several years.

Paul left South Africa in 2005 with his wife Jenny and lived in Dublin Ireland before relocating to Abu Dhabi in the UAE. Whilst there he continued to fuel his love of water polo and assisted in establishing the Abu Dhabi Water Polo Club, the Hammerheads. He continued there for several years in a player/coach role before immigrating to NZ with his wife and 2 girls and putting down roots in Dunedin. Having met some of our boys through Water Polo Otago, Paul reached out to the school to offer his services.

Otago Boys' is excited and privileged to welcome Paul and we are sure that our senior players, in particular, will benefit from his knowledge and coaching. Senior boys in Year 12 and 13 will continue to coach the boys in the Year 9 and 10 teams, allowing them not only to develop their leadership and coaching skills, but also to give back to the school, an important value at Otago Boys'. We look forward to a successful season.
