Following on from Nicholas's experience in Milford Sound with his father during the term one school holidays, Nicholas has joined his Gateway host employer for terms two and three.

On Fridays, I go out and work the day with Aotea Electric Southern and do a range of jobs.

My experiences have also included:

• Wiring plugs
• Installing lights
• Installing switches
• Installing domed security cameras
• Installing fire alarms

These are just a few jobs from the range I have experienced on Friday placements as part of the Gateway Program.

I work with some good people, who show me how to do jobs the right way and I am gaining a lot of valuable skills and experience from them. Next year, I hope to get an electrical apprenticeship or undertake electrical pre-trade qualifications at Otago Polytechnic.
