The rector has asked for the help of our Old Boys. Most of us will have fond memories of our 4th form trip to our fabulous Mt Aspiring Lodge, carrying sacks of potatoes through the river, crossing the precariously shaky swing bridge, or simply stopping off while tramping through the Matukituki Valley at some other time. We have all benefitted from the vision and hard work of many Old Boys and supporters who generously gave to the school some 40 years ago for the construction of the new lodge facilities. Now it’s time to give something back by pitching in to provide labour and resources for its refurbishment. Please consider how you may be able to help and keep an eye out for further communications on this.

There is still some confusion around the role of the Foundation and how it relates to the Society. In simple terms the Foundation is charged with raising much need funds for the benefit of the school. The Society’s chief objective is to foster goodwill among the Old Boys, also for the benefit of the school. The two organisations run in parallel and share the same end purpose as well as the same database - our alumni and wider school community. Both organisations play a very important part in the running of the school and in its future success.

Congratulations to Hamish Bond for his very recent gold medal win at the Rio Olympics. Hamish attended OBHS from 1999-2003. I attended an excellent evening with Hamish as the special guest held at the school after his London Olympics gold medal in 2012. He is clearly a world class athlete and an all round good bloke with whom we can be proud to be associated.

We are currently in talks with a guest speaker for a forthcoming Old Boys’ luncheon or perhaps cocktail function probably some time in October so please keep an eye out for more information about that.
