Balfour Intercollegiate Clay Target Competition

Jacqueline Irivng —

Held on Sunday 15 August, Balfour turned on good weather taking its turn to host a qualifying Clay Target Intercollegiate Competition.

Once again our Clay Target families came together to support their sons with good food and encouragement. With an 8.30am registration, it was an early start for those commuting from Wanaka, Dunedin and Clutha.

We had a smaller squad than usual shooting. Some of our boys were still suffering injuries from rugby semi-finals and other forms of contact with objects that prevented them safely taking part in this competition. It was impressive to see some of our injured shooters and their family members who lived locally turn up and encourage our boys.

Representing Otago Boys' High School for the first time at an Intercollegiate shoot were Year 9 students Flynn Dalley of Balclutha and Jackson Stevens of Balfour. We are proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing much more of them at competitions moving forward.

Intercollegiate Squad Shooters at Balfour:
Year 9 - Flynn Dalley, Jackson Stevens
Year 10 - Shamus Young
Year 12 - Ollie Nicholson, Isaac Ottrey, George Scurr, Will Scurr, Nic Sim, Jack Small
Year 13 - Henry Sim

Results from the competition:
Points Score Teams
1st Northern Southland College
2nd Otago Boys' High School
3rd Gore High School

Individual results:
Henry Sim - HOA Single Rise
Nic Sim - 1st Senior Skeet
Will Scurr - 2nd Senior Single Rise
Nic Sim - 3rd Senior Points Score

This shoot happened the Sunday prior to lockdown. Like many other sporting codes, we are facing the potential cancellation of some events moving forward. But we will take that week by week as it unfolds. It makes us all grateful for the support of families who have given up many weekends this year already to get the Clay Target Shooters around the lower South Island to school and club competitions thus far.
