A fine display of school values
Two young men, Emerson Walker and Henry Smith, displayed one of our core values - courage.
Both are quite new to singing, but with singing lessons and being involved in the OBHS choir, they have made fantastic progress. Singing as a soloist in front of an audience is always a daunting task, and for some even more so.
During our years of schooling, we will leave with a record of learning showing how we went in each subject. But we sometimes fail to recognise much of the growth we make in our character. I see some who arrive and struggle to work well with others, but leave as leaders or great team players; I see some who struggle with self-management, but leave more mature and with strategies for their own motivation and productivity; and, as a music teacher, I see many who arrive extremely reluctant to speak, perform, or sing in front of an audience, but leave with a confidence that shows immense growth.
I think it is important to shine a light on the success we often fail to appreciate.
