The Form Time Cup competition came to an exciting conclusion on Monday at lunchtime.

After five rounds of hard-fought activities, four form classes from four house groups would battle it out for the crown of the Form Time Cup. From the chaos of the weet-bix eating contest to the pedestrian pace of the egg and spoon race, the first five rounds of competition had certainly tested the resolve of the form classes. Through these completely arbitrary measurements of performance - AP7, MC1, PK3 and SN3 would emerge as the most elite form groups within the school.

A bright, sunny lunchtime in the Quad would see a contest of two semi-finals and a final between the top form groups at Otago Boys’ High School. In the first semi-final, MC1 defeated AP7 in a dominant display of dodgeball dexterity. Thus, Isaac Adam and his form class had unequivocally proven why they had won five from five in the preliminary rounds. The second semi-final saw a tight affair between PK3 and SN3. Even despite reducing the playing field to half its original size, this contest threatened to last longer than time itself. However, it was the steady support of Ms Moore (from a safe distance) that saw her form class qualify for the final of the inaugural Form Time Cup tournament.

In a battle of true competitive spirit, the PK3 underdogs would come out victorious in the final. Despite cries of cheating from Mr Hooper, members of the Form Time Cup committee ruled in favour of PK3’s triumph. To recognise their superlative success, PK3 were awarded a recycled cricket trophy as the champions of the Form Time Cup competition in 2022. To further acknowledge this outstanding achievement, PK3 were also treated to a pizza shout on Tuesday at form time paid for by Mr King.

Overall, the Form Time Cup tournament showed great promise in its first year as it was readily embraced by the boys. The purpose of this competition has been to encourage participation and foster relationships between form students as they endeavour to be crowned the best form group in the school. I really do believe that we have achieved this objective and I hope to see the continuation of the Form Time Cup for years to come.
