James' cycling success continues

OBHS —

James Gardner had little time to put his feet up during the school holidays.

To start with, he spent three days competing in the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland.

James held the yellow jersey after the first stage, an individual time trial. He then rode selflessly supporting NZ Cycling Project teammate, Oliver Watson-Palmer to win the title.

James was deservedly recognised with the 'Staunch Award' for displaying loyalty and commitment throughout the tour (as well as getting a place on the podium himself). He finished the tour as he started, winning the final stage!

If that wasn't enough, he then went on to be our sole representative at the NZSS Track Cycling Champs (also held in Invercargill).

Contesting all the individual races James' results were:

  • 7th in the 5000m Scratch race
  • 4th in his Keirin heat before placing second in the B Final
  • 1st in the 7500m Tempo Points race

James is the U-20 Boys National Points Race champion for 2022!
