Food and Nutrition
A week 7 update from the Food and Nutrition department.
11FDN are working on models of health. Over the last two weeks they have constructed a whare, which underpins the concept of Hauora - a Māori philosophy and a holistic approach to well-being.
All four walls of the whare are to be strong to maintain good health. Students found it a challenge and we discussed how the whare was a physical metaphor for their own health. We looked at weaknesses in our whare and what we do as people to try and mask these when we are feeling a certain way.
13FDN is looking at ultra-processed foods. They have spent time making homemade versions of certain foods and comparing them to store bought.
It was nice to capture them engaged in their 'bookwork' this week comparing the nutritional value of various muesli bars and then discussing their preferences. They created their own using Nadia Lim's Apricot, Coconut, and Pumpkin seeds Muesli slice as the base recipe.
