Red Cross Youth Emergency Preparedness Programme

The Red Cross Youth Emergency Preparedness Programme (YEPP) is designed to teach young people knowledge and skills to increase the levels of personal emergency preparedness within the community.

The aims of the programme are:

  • For participants to become familiar with the potential for emergencies to occur.
  • For participants to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to react to emergency situations.
  • For participants to develop leadership skills and resilience.

YEPP is for you if:

  • You are a student from Year 11 to Year 13.
  • You are after an exciting and unique experience.
  • You enjoy getting into the outdoors.
  • You are interested in helping your fellow humans.
  • You are considering a future in humanitarian service.

Topics covered include:

  • Emergency preparedness
  • VHF radio use
  • Water Safety
  • Search and Rescue (Land and Urban)
  • Navigation
  • First Aid
  • Civil Defence functions
  • Psycho-social support
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership and personal development

What you need to know:

  • Every Thursday from 7pm - 9pm.
  • Limited spaces, numbers are capped.
  • Two weekend long camps per year.
  • There may be extra opportunities for involvement with the Disaster Welfare Support Team training or events.
  • All transport, accommodation and training costs are met by Red Cross.
  • You may need to purchase some suitable clothing and footwear.
