Volleyball News

Enoka Taufua —

This Sunday our Senior A Volleyball team will travel to Palmerston North to compete in the 2017 Volleyball National Championships.

It has been a long and hard road to get to this point. Preseason training started in early January with the goal to defend our Senior title at Otago Champs and thus qualify for Division 1 at Nationals. The first major tournament was Senior South Islands. Our young team started slow but finished well with 3 wins and 3 loses, eventually placing 7th overall. Otago Champs was next and what a weekend it was. We were 3 starters down due to injury and only had 7 players for the tournament. The team dug deep to come through undefeated and retain the Otago title. Next week we enter the national tournament seeded 18th out of 32 in Division 1. We are aiming to better our result of 16th last year.

Senior B

We are very fortunate this year to have a very strong B team made up of Year 11's and 10's. They have performed well in their Monday night games but the highlight this season was making the semi finals in Division 2 for the Senior South Island Champs and eventually finishing the tournament 3rd equal. This was a great effort by the young side, considering their age and experience, or lack thereof, at senior level.

A big thank you to Kelly Laurence for coaching the team.
