Prefects v Staff basketball

George Hamilton —

The prefect team was desperate for a win.

With pressure mounting after two consecutive losses, we needed a victory to silence the critics. In this third round of competition, the prefect team took on the staff in a high-stakes game of basketball. Akin to the All Blacks, careers, reputations and livelihoods were all at stake. The prefect team needed to deliver on the biggest stage against a tough opposition.

As expected, the teachers were not going to make it easy. Fielding a team composed predominantly of P.E teachers, the staff team played physical and utilised an array of dirty tactics. Hard fouls, rule violations and even resorting to playing eight people at once were just some of the features of a scrappy performance from the teaching side.

Despite the odds being against us, we delivered. High-flying dunks, step-back threes and disrespectful blocks were all hallmarks of a well-rounded performance from the student leadership team. Whilst there were some scoring surges from the teachers, the outcome was ultimately never in doubt. Through adversity, the prefects pulled out an emphatic win.

Encouragingly, the prefect team still has a shot at ending the season with a winning record. With upcoming clashes against the OGHS prefects and a rematch against the staff team, two wins would dispel any concerns about the quality of the OBHS prefect squad.

Final Score: 37-22 to Prefects

Record: 1-2
