OBHS v OGHS prefect netball

George Hamilton —

Another week provided yet another challenge.

The OBHS prefects were looking to capitalise on the newfound momentum we had gained from a comprehensive win against a lacklustre staff basketball team. Entering hostile territory, this fourth round of competition would see our prefects travel down the hill to face the Otago Girls’ prefects in a pivotal game of netball. Once again, careers, reputations and livelihoods were all on the line - could the prefects deliver a result away from home?

As expected, our biggest challenge would be unfamiliarity. Attempting to understand the myriad of netball rules and regulations whilst also being screamed at by a gym full of girls were new experiences for all involved. Additionally, we all had to embrace our feminine sides by sporting tight-fitting netball dresses and pretty pink bibs. It’s fair to say that the OBHS prefects had been thrown into the deep end straight off the bat.

We were also facing tough opposition. Jam-packed with netball talent and an actual understanding of the game, the OGHS prefects were not going to make it easy for us. Furthermore, having to deal with fraudulent scoring tallies and questionable refereeing decisions only compounded to create a mountain that seemed impossible to climb.

Despite all of these disadvantages, the OBHS prefect team was yet again able to deliver. Teamwork, physicality and coordination were all tasty ingredients of a scrumptious performance by the Otago Boys’ prefect team. Whilst the Otago Girls’ prefects took leads late in the game, the result was valiantly won by the OBHS team in a tightly-contested affair. Through enormous adversity, the prefects were once again able to secure an all-important win against a tough opposition.

From here, the OBHS prefects will look to maintain our winning momentum in what fixtures remain. Future contests against the staff and a possible rematch against the Otago Girls’ prefects will be sure to test the resolve of the student leadership team.

Final Score: 25-23 to OBHS Prefects

Record: 2 wins, 2 losses
