Tennyson Shield Blues...

Stewart Tagg —

This morning our junior school was joined in our auditorium by our friends from down the hill at Otago Girls’ High School to enjoy our annual Tennyson Shield contest.

Both schools’ best public speakers pitted their verbal dexterity against each other alongside our top debaters who clashed their intellects and wit.

This was the closest Shield contest yet.

Despite our own Ciaran McBurney coming away with the distinction of having the best speech and despite our debaters winning the debate by the tightest of margins, the combined cumulative scores of ALL speakers added to 174 vs 176.5, giving OGs' a narrow victory and cause for much celebration!

Our junior school were a credit to themselves and their school by being a wonderful audience and respectful, gracious hosts to Otago Girls’.

Our Tennyson Shield team: Peter Crosson, Ciaran McBurney, Angus Henderson, Viswanath Berry and Liam Connolly all displayed various degrees of courage, tenacity and good humour which will hold us in good stead  when we head down the hill to OGHS to get our shield back in 2018!
