Year 10 students have been learning how to create meals that are old fashioned 'staple' meals and that have key cooking elements in them - for example being able to cook rice and pasta. Students have learned how to sharpen knives, interpret recipes and follow them.

After entering a school team for the first time in the Indoor Cricket Competition, our boys won their final last night against a spirited and experienced team of older cricketers. The boys put in one of their best performances of the season winning by a very comfortable 65 runs.

Futsal South trialled a new format for senior futsal in Term 3. Having previously played across both Terms 3 and 4, this year they condensed the season into Term 3 only. This had teams playing two games a night over a three-week season. With NCEA exams often limiting entries in this competition this was a good concept and well supported by Schools.

As part of their Measurement topic, students in 9T were designing a new energy drink which they had to “market” in a container holding exactly 270 mls.

Congratulations to Year 9 student Elliott Alloo who recently qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships held in Wellington over the weekend. Elliott qualified for four events, doing particularly well in the 50m Breaststroke coming 8th and 10th in the 100m Breaststroke. A great achievement on a national scale.

Seven OBHS old boys (Slade McDowall, Jordan McEntee, Ben Scorgie, Liam Sharples, Hemaua Samasoni, Alex Frood and Josh Buchan) represented Otago at the National U19 tournament held in Taupo this week. Slade McDowall was captain of the team who finished 5th overall in the tournament. Hemaua Samasoni had to return early due to injury.
