Modern life seems to get busier and busier. School life is no exception.

The NCEA system is ridiculous. We are taught to chase after credits, but I guess it does keep us motivated. 

Recently there has been an influx of trench coat wearing males roaming the streets of Dunedin. Tall bearded men. Out on the town, rain or shine. Men who are not only full of knowledge on why the government is conspiring against us but also delicious fruit flavoured vapour.

The Otago Boys' High School band, The Sun Animals, consisting of Year 13 students Tom Sharp (lead guitar), George Alexander (drums), Seddie Hewitson (Bass), and Year 11 student Jack Fisher (vocals and guitar), have successfully made it through the Smokefree Rockquest heats and finals, and are now hard at work to create their audition tape for the national final.

In preparation for our upcoming Junior Debate Competition, 9B got some practice in during English classes this week. Having learnt the ins and outs of how a debate works, the boys are primed and ready to dominate the competition which kicks off soon!

It has been an extremely musical week for a number of OB's boys. Amid school production rehearsals, many boys were also involved in the Rockquest, Chamber Contest, and The Big Sing.

Last weekend, Louie Cheng, Boudewijn Keenan, Sean Woo, and Joshua Lewis were involved in the NZCT Chamber Music Contest. 

OBHS Careers Advisor Andrew Swan was presented with an award for OBHS for our contribution to the Youth Employment Success scheme. 

Buddy Reading is in full swing in the school library. Run twice a week during Form time. The Buddy Reading Programme sees Year 13 volunteers spending time with selected Year 9 students sharing experiences, and promoting an enthusiasm for reading as a fun activity. 

This morning Year 9 student Noah Oseki along with his sister Aya (from St Brigid's School) were amongst the first people to lay cans in the Octagon as part of Presbyterian Support Otago's annual Octacan Appeal. A great example of the outstanding community spirit of students here in Dunedin.

On Wednesday and Thursday last week, both Year 13 Chemistry classes visited the Otago University to complete the practical work towards their 3.1 internal. 

Jet is a Year 13 student currently on placement at Bike Otago.

The annual winter interschool fixture between Otago Boys' High School and Timaru Boys' High School was held in Dunedin this week. Following are the results.

With Junior exams just over a week away boys should now be settled into a good study routine.
