Over the past week the Aon Maadi Cup rowing regatta was held at Lake Karapiro, Cambridge.

Over the last few weeks I have struggled to find something to talk about. I’ve moved from idea to idea, but nothing stuck.

The young men of 10B wanted a bit of extra challenge for their Mt Aspiring camp last week. They got it in the form of a decent rainfall accurately predicted by the Metservice before we left.

The annual Harry Potter Quiz was held at lunchtime on Monday, the Weasley twins birthday of course!

The Artist of the Week for week 10 of Term 1 is Year 10 student Kalevini Hotesi.

A group of Year 10 Pasifika students spent a day at the University of Otago as part of the Pacific Science Future Initiative.

Parents of prospective boarding students for 2020, 2021 at all year levels and current parents of boarders at OBHS Hostel, are warmly invited to attend one of the following country visits to meet with Mr Richard Hall, OBHS Rector and Mr Matthew Markham, OBHS Director of Boarding.

This term we have been running a can drive to support the Presbyterian Family Works Food Bank.

On 29 March a team of 12 athletes travelled to Nelson for the South Island Secondary Schools’ Athletics Champs.

Our Senior A's travelled up to Palmerston North over the tournament week to participate in the Secondary Schools' Volleyball Nationals. Seeded 23rd in the country, our goal was to better our seeding and push for a top 16 spot.

Things ran a little differently this year. Mr Matehaere was given the day off, and Mr Willmott’s Year 11 Applied PE class took over the organising. With increased marketing, the event saw record entries. Usually struggling to reach double digits, this year we had 28 students competing!

Water polo is a challenging sport. Students are required to swim well and endure conflict in the water as well as shoot with accuracy and operate as a team. This is all in a deep pool and a tumultuous environment.

The much-anticipated schools cycling calendar kicked off over the weekend with the South Island School Mountain Bike Championships.

The OBHS Rowing Club are running a Learn to Row Programme for Terms 2-3 at a cost of $40.

The New Zealand Schools’ Triathlon Championships were held in New Plymouth last weekend. The event ran alongside the ITU World Championship event and allowed students to share the stage with their triathlon heroes.

The 2019 election theme is “Step forward for our schools”.

On Tuesday 9th April school will close for tuition at 2pm.

On Friday 12th April, Otago Boys' High School will close early for tuition at 1.05pm. This will allow our teachers to run parent interviews with our hostel boys.

This week we have set up a new Facebook page called OBHS Hostel 150th Reunion. We will be posting regular updates regarding events and how to register etc.
