Olympic athlete and old boy Robbie Johnston spoke in assembly last Tuesday. His message to the gathered students was simple, he was not the best runner in the school when he started, but through perseverance and action he became one of the best runners in the country.

The theme for my last word is hard work.

On Friday (last week) the Year 10 leadership group were involved in a Sport Otago fundamental skills sports day for local primary schools held at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

The students of Otago Boys' have celebrated Samoan Language Week with a daily language competition challenging students to learn common Samoan phrases and words.

This week the school received a note of thanks from a member of the public.  We would like to share this with our school community.

On Wednesday evening we celebrated and farewelled two long standing staff members, Guidance Counsellor Atha Naziris and Head of Music Rob Duffy.  Atha joined the staff at Otago Boys' in 1975 and Rob in 1990.

What a delight to host the students from Room 2 this week!

Arguing points of law, disputing facts and deciding guilt or innocence were just three of the aspects of law that several of our senior students experienced at a recent Workshop organised by the Otago University Law Faculty.

Deputy Head Boy Sam Kilsby took part in the Lions Young Speechmaker regional finals last weekend. Sam was placed third, after all contestant’s gave a prepared and impromptu speech. Deliberation was intense with only half a mark separating the top three. Congratulations Sam on your superb effort.

Year 13 student Jacob Bellamy is participating in the Gateway programme and is hosted by Dean Wooltorton Builders.

This week our Junior Assembly enjoyed the English Department's 'Great OBHS Spelling Bee.' 

The Year 10 Food Technology gingerbread structures were completed this week. Students were required to come up with a theme and then determine the materials to make it work.

OBHS old boy, Olympian and Commonwealth Games competitor Robbie Johnston spoke and presented awards to the "Senior A" Cross Country team at this weeks Senior Assembly.  

Otago Boys' will host the annual winter interschool fixture with Christ's College on Tuesday 14th June.

An evening of side-splitting laughter for all the family!

As parents of boys you will know that the majority of our young men are involved in some type of physical activity.

As much as possible, could boys and parents please make all medical, (off site) physio, dentist and driving lesson appointments for students out of school time. These one off, but sometimes frequent absences during the year can have a considerable impact on student learning. Your support is appreciated.
