You cannot study and use your phone.

Excellence is a quality that surpasses ordinary or is unusually good. Surpassing ordinary doesn't take talent, it's not something you are born with, it's a mind set, you have to want to be better than ordinary. 

This morning at senior assembly the 2016 Winter Blues were awarded. Congratulations to all recipients.

This award recognises one young man in each year level who has lived our school values: Respect, Perseverance, Honour, Courage and Excellence. He ideally will be a student who has shown through his actions these values, not just his potential. This award, we hope, will inspire all our students. 

On Wednesday night the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme regional finals were held in the Hutton Theatre at the Otago Museum.

It became a very sad time for Thai people and many people around the world when King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand passed away.

At the weekend, a group of students took part in a Sustainability Group trip to the School Lodge. 

This week we received the fantastic news that two of our boys have made the New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir.

The school swimming sports were held on Thursday at Moana Pool. 

The Otago Secondary Schools Rowing Association Indoor Rowing Championships were held last weekend.  The following results show OB's rowing is in good heart. Well done to everyone involved.

Recently the International Futsal team - The World XI competed in the Dunedin Senior Futsal Competition held at the Edgar Cente. The team won all their matches scoring a remarkable average of 6 goals a game whilst conceding very few themselves. They were the deserved winners of the Division 4 competition. 

The new rowing season begins this weekend with the long distance row from Cromwell to Clyde. Sure to blow the cobwebs away.

Year 10 student Grason Veitch travelled to Timaru last weekend to represent Otago Boys' High School and compete in the South Island Secondary School Moto X Championships.  Grason won both of the 12 - 16 years 125cc and the 14 - 16 years 250cc titles.  Well done Grason!

Congratulations to Oscar Black, Shay Thom and Luke Mitchell who were members of the Otago 16th Grade Football team that competed in the South Island Representatives tournament in Timaru over the holidays.  Seven teams participated in the tournament with Otago taking out the title.

Following his recent success at the South Island Judo Championships, Year 10 student Dylan Murcott travelled to Auckland last week for two days to compete at the National Championships.  Here he won a bronze medal in the cadet men (for his weight/age group) category.  Congratulations on a suberb effort!

As much as possible, could boys and parents please make all medical, (off site) physio, dentist and driving lesson appointments for students out of school time. These one off, but sometimes frequent absences during the year can have a considerable impact on student learning. Your support is appreciated.
